MidSouth ACFE Chapter Joins Global Fight Against Fraud

The Midsouth Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners has joined a growing list of organizations making a public commitment to promoting anti-fraud awareness and reducing fraud risk. As a National Fraud Awareness Week Official Supporter for 2006, Our Midsouth Chapter is helping to spread the message that fraud detection and prevention is a priority for leading businesses, government agencies and organizations worldwide.

National Fraud Awareness Week, July 9-14, 2006 (www.FraudWeek.com) brings fraud awareness to the spotlight and encourages everyone to join the global fight against fraud. According to a study by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), US entities lose more than $600 billion annually to fraud and abuse. Today, organizations across the U.S. and the world face new challenges in the effort to detect, deter and investigate fraud.

In support of National Fraud Awareness Week the Midsouth Chapter is inviting the public to two free events on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the Holiday Inn Select-East located at 5795 Poplar Avenue (Poplar & I-240) in Memphis. The first event will be from 4 PM to 8 PM in which the public can bring paper items to be shredded by a mobile shredding truck. We request the public to bring paper items only and if possible put them in a cardboard box or paper sack. The second event will be inside the hotel for an information session on Identity theft from 7:30 to 8:20 PM. There will also be an educational seminar for professionals concerned with fraud prevention starting in the afternoon. Professionals can earn six continuing education credits for attending. The cost to attend the professional seminar is $65.00. For more information send an email to midsouthacfe@eartlink.net
